Welcome to District 51

Headshot of Dr. Ken HaptonstallDear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

I would first like to welcome you to our district and our new website. As the new superintendent of Mesa County School District 51, I am excited about the upcoming school year and everything District 51 has to offer students. In our school system, we offer a wide variety of options for students who learn in differing ways. We also collaborate with our local charter schools to expand our options to meet the needs of diverse learners. As District 51 shifts to a performance based learning model, we are working to provide students, parents, and community members with more clarity in the learning process. The D51 Learning Model provides clear expectations and demands demonstration of learning so students are ready to tackle new and challenging topics at their own pace.

As educators, we are accountable for student learning. As a system, we are focused on making sure our students can realize any dream they may have, including higher education, technical school, the military or the work force. We are also accountable to be the stewards of the taxpayers’ educational system and the assets within our district. We recognize and honor the fact that it is a privilege to serve our community and work to make it a better place for everyone to learn, work, and support each other. I am committed to demonstrate how we will be accountable to our community and how we will work with others in our community to support community-wide goals that work to strengthen the mission of the district, as well as the community as a whole.

I invite you to visit our schools, meet our staff members, and get to know how we meet the needs of our students each and every day. I would also encourage you to provide feedback to anyone in our system for improvement. We are an organization that believes in continuous improvement and honors the fact that our constituents have valuable information in our efforts to improve.

Thank you for your continued support of our district.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ken Haptonstall
