Eligibility

Enrollment in the Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado program in District 51 requires eligibility. The Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado program ensures that every child in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten is eligible for at least 10 hours of state-funded, voluntary preschool beginning in the school year 2023-2024. Three year olds with one qualifying factor are eligible for 10 hours of preschool programming. Three year old qualifying factors include:

  • Household Income
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Housing Status
  • Limited English Proficiency
  • Foster/Kinship Care

To be eligible for the Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado program children must be at least 3 years old and younger than 5 years old as of August 31, 2024.

District 51 preschools offer placement and provide services to preschool age children that have been identified with special education needs and have a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Special education means having a disability in one or more of the following areas; speech/language, cognition/thinking, social/emotional, or physical that has been identified through our Child Find process.

All our programs are licensed by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood.
